FOCUS #1: Lincolnton Rail Trail

Welcome to the Lincolnton Rail Trail, formally known as the Marcia H. Cloninger Rail Trail, after the advocate that spearheaded its creation. As WALC's Focus Area #1, we are excited to have your support as we keep working together to improve our community with connected trails, greenways and blueways.

The Lincolnton Rail Trail now connects three of our city’s parks:

  • Betty G. Ross park on the south side
  • First Federal Park in the center of town
  • City Park to the north.

Our expansion plans include connecting City Park to the existing trail at Ramsour’s Mill and continuing the south side of the trail from Betty Ross Park to connect to the trailhead at Laboratory Mill.

And we have blueway plans underway as well! This spring we will build our first river launch on the South Fork River with a dock and fishing pier at Betty Ross Park. It will be the perfect spot to put in a kayak or tube for a float or throw a line out to fish.

We’re excited about our trail and blueway plans! These amenities add so much to our community – healthy, outdoor places for community members and visitors to connect with nature and each other. Your participation in “Meet Me at the Trail” will help raise much needed funds to improve and expand our trails and blueways.
