The Lincoln County Carolina Thread Trails' Master Plan is designed to connect to the greater Carolina Thread Trail, which is a regional network of 1500 planned miles of greenways, trails and blue ways. Lincoln County Commissioners approved this plan in 2009 to develop 71.2 miles of contiguous trails, greenways and blue ways. WALC has designated three key focus areas of interest based on the greatest opportunity to achieve the vision of connecting the communities, businesses, schools, parks and historic resources of Lincoln County, offering valuable opportunities for recreation, transportation and economic development. This network of trails will also contribute to the future viability of the County through the conservation of open space along trail corridors, protecting natural resources and, whenever possible, providing opportunities to experience the County’s rich history.
